Chequamegon Concert Choir 11/12
Grade 11 – 12
2 semesters – 1 credit
Prerequisite: Ability to sing in tune
The Chequamegon Junior/Senior Concert Choir, a two-semester course, strives to be the finest organization of its kind. Throughout the school year music is studied from all the periods of music history. Chequamegon Concert Choir performances are a required element of participation in this group. Five required performances throughout the school year include the Autumn Concert, Christmas Concert, Large Group Concert Festival, Spring Concert, and Graduation ceremony.
In addition to the required performances, students who participate in choir have the opportunity to participate in musical productions, district solo and ensemble contest, state solo and ensemble contest, Madrigal Singers, WSMA Honor Choirs, WCDA Honor Choirs, and the Dorian Choral Festival. Every four years the choir takes an extended tour, with the next trip being planned for New York City during the 2013-2014 school year.
Being a member of a choral ensemble is a great way to build a sense of community. Choral singing also offers tremendous benefits to a student’s intellectual and emotional development. Choir provides an opportunity to get to know new people.

Grades 9 – 10

Prerequisites: Basic intonation skills
The Freshmen/Sophomore Choir, a two-semester course, is a training group that is open to all students who want to explore their singing voice. This class focuses on breath support, singing in harmony, singing in tune, and expanding the vocal range. The Freshmen/Sophomore Choir Performances are a required element of participation in this group. Four required graded performances throughout the school year include the Autumn Concert, Christmas Concert, Large Group Concert Festival, and Spring Concert.

- Students will be exposed to and study choral music from all the major periods of music history: Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary.
- Students will be given the opportunity to perform the music that they have studied and rehearsed.
- Students will demonstrate basic music reading skills.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to sing in tune.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to sing music in four-part harmony.
- Students will demonstrate correct posture for singing.
- Students will demonstrate proper breathing techniques and breath control.
- Students will identify basic music terminology and symbols.
- Performing in choir leads the individual to a greater self-confidence, self-esteem, and pride in one’s achievements.
- Students in choir are offered a safe environment where they can make a positive contribution and achieve personal and team success.
